Baby Update

Anna turned 6 months yesterday!  I can't believe that we are at the halfway point of her first year.  The biggest thing I learned with my first baby is that you really need to enjoy the first year and soak it all in because it flies by.

This month Anna has grown so much!  She is officially sitting up on her own.  She rolls and pivots on her tummy to get where she wants to go.  She has her favorite toys that she loves to play with anything she can get her hands on, especially her wipes and diaper packaging.  She's starting to take a pacifier more which is helpful at times.  Anna even surprised me last week by getting her first tooth!  I was not expecting that so soon!  Jack didn't get a tooth until 9 months.

 Feeding and Sleeping Schedule

It's only taken me 6 months, but I finally feel like I have a decent schedule going with Anna.  She eats every 2-3 hours and she's been getting one solid feeding per day, usually around dinner time.  I'm still breastfeeding and I'm grateful that it's been going so smoothly still.

As I mentioned last month, Anna's sleeping was getting pretty bad and I was up with her so many times in the night.  A friend of mine shared some videos with me on the topic of sleep training and it's definitely been helping me figure out a sleep schedule for her.  I haven't started to completely do the whole sleep training program, but I have made little changes here and there that have made a difference in her sleep schedule.

A couple changes that I have made with her sleeping routine is for one, putting her down earlier.  Jack goes to bed at 9:00, so I was putting Anna down between 8:30 and 9:00.  What I learned is that the sweet spot for babies is between 7:00 and 8:00 pm.  Keeping them up later does not help them sleep through the night.  Anna has been going down at 7:00 every night and it's been much better for her and me.  I'm able to get some one-on-one time with Jack after she goes to bed, which is really nice.

Another change I have made is letting her fall asleep on her own.  I am not always the best at this, but I try to put her down when she's still awake and let her fall asleep in her crib on her own.  I've noticed that she is getting better at putting herself back to sleep in the night when she wakes up.  I'm still trying to figure out how to do night feedings with her, but lately, she's been sleeping from 7am- 7pm and waking up only 2 times per night to eat.  It's a huge improvement from waking up 6 times per night!

Life With Two Kids

Life has been busy and sometimes I can't even tell you why I'm so busy.  I stay home almost every day, yet I still have a never-ending to-do list.  Following a schedule does help me get through each day.  I feel like you just need to find a routine and balance when you have more than one child.  I'm getting better at it each day.

Jack is really growing into his role of big brother.  He loves his little sister so much.  He plays with her, talks to her, and makes sure she doesn't get into any trouble.  He's so sweet.  At her bedtime, he likes to read to her a bedtime story.  Seeing them together makes me so happy.

Mother-daughter Christmas look

I can't say that there are a whole lot of postpartum changes at this point, but what I will talk about today are my stretch marks.  One of the biggest changes with my body after this pregnancy are my stretch marks.  I didn't get any after my first pregnancy, but my second one did me in.  Sure, I could have been a little better at being proactive with my second pregnancy of trying to prevent them, but in the end, what could I do?  My belly got so big with my second pregnancy that I had nowhere else to go.  I don't like my stretch marks, but at the same time, I'm not that mad over them.  My days of wearing bikinis are long over anyway. The thing about having a postpartum body is that you just need to accept it for what it is.  I'm grateful that my jeans fit and I'm down to my normal size, at least I feel like I am. I haven't actually stepped on a scale since my 6-week postpartum check-up.  Things aren't perfect, but it is what it is.  I'm a mom now and I'm pretty proud of it!  I'm proud of this body of mine too!

5 Favorite Baby and Postpartum Products This Month

Cozy carseat cover

Cozy Carseat Cover

Winter is here in Michigan and I needed something warm to go over Anna's car seat.  I found something similar to the one above at my local second-hand kid store.  I like that it adds some extra insolation to her car seat for the winter.  It's definitely a must-have if you live in a cold place like me.

Cozy nursing-friendly button-down pajama set

Button-Down Pajamas Set

I'm loving my classic button-down pajama set.  I had one with shorts in the summer and wore it almost every night, so I was excited to get one for the winter.  The buttons make nursing so easy at night.  This set is so cozy and made of lightweight material, so you won't overheat in bed, but you can also layer up with it.
Hand-held blender for baby food

Hand-Held Blender

You might be asking yourself why is a hand-held blender one of my favorite baby products?  It's because this is the easiest and fastest way to make baby food.  I puree all of Anna's baby food and it saves me so much time on cooking the food and blending it.  You don't need to buy any special baby bullet blenders or food processors.  You can check out my post on how I made baby food HERE for Jack when he was a baby!  I hope to share an updated post in the upcoming months too!

Love to dream sleep sack

Love to Dream Transitional Swaddle

You may have seen me share this swaddle on my Instagram (post HERE).  Now that Anna is officially sleeping in sleep sacks we have been using a few different styles, but I really love the Love to Dream swaddle.  It comes with wings so you can start off using it as a swaddle, but as your baby gets more mobile the wings zip off and it becomes a sleep sack.  I like that it's snug in the middle, so it still gives her a sense of security like a swaddle.  I highly recommend trying out this swaddle if you are in the market for a sleep sack!

Nippii frozen pacifier

Nippii Frozen Pacifier

I was recently sent this frozen pacifier for Anna.  I love the concept because babies love to chew on their pacifiers when they are teething, but this one is also great for the baby to suck on.  It's really easy to use and it freezes in less than 30 minutes.  I've found it very convent for my teething baby.
